Books and Bagels Signing Event

Sunday, March 22
Fancy Bagels
405 Queen St,
Southington, Connecticut 06489

(860) 621-0055

Fancy Bagels customers can purchase books along with their favorite bagels. The store is hosting a book signing with me and Alexandra Amoroso. Amoroso’s book, Camelot… What It Was and How It Ended, chronicles the Assassination of John F. Kennedy and its aftermath. She points out that part of her fascination with President Kennedy is the fact that he and Bruno Gualtieri, the grandfather of her aunt, store manager, Jackie Gaultieri’s, were friends who corresponded and exchanged greeting cards with each other.  Amoroso worked at the store for two years before going to college. I am a long-time customer and friend of Jackie and her son, store owner, Dom. I consider Fancy Bagels the best in Connecticut and even featured the business in my latest novel, Wounded Angels.

Both of us will be on hand from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm on March 22 to sell, sign and personalize our books. Even better, those who purchase books will receive coupons for a free bagel items.

More information on Fancy Bagels is available online at https://www.facebook.com/fancybagel/ and on Alexandra Amoroso at  https://www.facebook.com/alexandra.amoroso

Wounded Angels: The Story Behind the Story

March 25, 2020 from 10:30 am to noon.

Bristol Senior Community Center
240 Stafford Avenue,
Bristol CT, 06010
860-584-7895

Free and open to the public. The senior center asks that if you are not a current senior center member, please call 860-584-7895 to register so that they can accommodate everyone.

This is the place that started it all. The Bristol Senior Center (BSC) is where the people and events came together to inspire Wounded Angels. I spent three years on-site at the BSC researching, rewriting and interacting with the center members to make sure that the story was as authentic as possible. What better place to hear segments of the story than in the location where they actually happened both in the book and, in many cases, in real life.

UP AND COMING
June / December - 2017

Charlotte

It’s been a while since I’ve done writing on my new book, Wounded Angels or updates about my book activities and writing in general. Instead, I’ve been helping to organize and run a large extended family reunion, catching up on many long-neglected home projects and starting to devote more time to connecting or re-connecting with family and friends. Many people have asked about when the new book will be ready and I’ve given and missed several projected dates. Many of those who know me personally know that Wounded Angels was a fictionalized account of the experiences of my wife’s mother, Charlotte. The book recounts how Maureen Russo, Charlotte’s character in the book, met and married her husband, spent a lifetime with him and lost him after more than fifty years. It goes on to describe the devastating effects of that loss on her and an odd friendship that sustained her during that period, until she met and married the second love-of-her-life and remarried in her eighties.

I experienced this story first-hand and thought it was a lovely tale that is reminiscent of so many people who have to cope with the loss of a loved one. Charlotte’s second marriage was a deeply romantic and satisfying one for her and I hoped to have her attend the first book signing and provide her with a first copy of the book, but that was many years ago. In the interim, her second husband developed Alzheimer’s disease, which greatly distressed Charlotte. When he passed away after more than fifteen years together, Charlotte had to cope with a second devastating loss and one from which she never fully recovered. Eventually, she also developed Alzheimer’s disease. Those of us who loved her have had to stand by helplessly as the disease took a little more of her each day and also diminished her ability to cope with the physical reality of her aging. Most recently, Charlotte has been bed-ridden and suffering from pain both real and imagined and we have been praying for God to release her from her suffering. Last night, God answered our prayers.  I realized that part of my lack of progress on completing Wounded Angels, has been my own coping with the story I was trying to tell, the demands of writing it a way that could be published and the reality of what was occurring in the real-life person I was writing about.

My relationship with my father was a complicated one and it was only in the months following his death that his life came into clearer focus for me and I came to appreciate the man he was. I’m taking the same opportunity now with Charlotte and I am suspending my writing activities for the next several months. I hope to resume them at the start of next year. Until then, I wish you and yours every good thing. Warmest Regards, Chuck.

UP AND COMING
April / May 2017

From Snow to Sand

As I began this recently, the sun was shining bright on the sand at Myrtle Beach where we were on a much needed vacation. I feel especially blessed to have the freedom and resources to escape the frozen landscape of New England's winter occasionally and enjoy the sun in warmer climates. I hope this finds you and yours safe and warm.

If you are getting this for the first time after having signed up a long time ago I apologize for the long delay. I continue to work through a backlog of far-past-due signups.

If you are new to this community, welcome. If you have any comments or suggestions regarding these announcements, please share them with me via the contact page on my website at AuthorChuckMiceli.com or directly via e-mail at Chuck@AuthorChuckMiceli.com

Now, here is what’s UP AND COMING.
Upcoming Events
RESULTS OF AGENT MEETINGS AT UNICORN WRITERS CONFERENCE ON MARCH 25

I met with six literary agents regarding my new book, Wounded Angels and spent 30 minutes with each agent who had read the first 40 pages of the manuscript. Two agents said they would pass. Three others asked for the entire manuscript and said they would consider representing me after reviewing the changes they suggested for the sample pages and assessing the writing in the remainder of the book. The final agent asked for the rest or the manuscript and said she would absolutely be interested in representing me if the remainder of the manuscript had the same quality as the first 40 pages. She said there is a large market for my kind of book and looked forward to seeing the rest it. That means I need to get moving on finishing the edits. More to come.
THE RADIO INTERVIEW WITH DAVID EWEN WILL OCCUR LATER.
Our interview on March 27 did not occur due to technical difficulties and we agreed to hold off until I have finished the edits on the current book.
THE APRIL STAGED READING OF WOUNDED ANGELS AT UCONN IS ALSO POSTPONED.
The play needs more editing and I need to concentrate on the book, so the reading will occur at a later date. More to come.
AUTHORS TABLE AT THE HARTFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY - SATURDAY, MAY 13, 10:00 AM - 2 PM
I will be the featured author at the Hartford Public Library on Saturday, May 13. I will have a table set up in the library for sales and signing of my books and to answer any questions readers might have about me, my books or any aspect of the writing and publishing profession. Come by and say hello.

Carl wrote the screenplays for both our books and we are looking into the possibility of co-promoting them at the same time. More to come.

THE BOOK

I finished the initial rewrites of Wounded Angels per feedback from editor, Bob Zaslow. I am very impressed with his skills and have arranged to continue working with him on the book. In the meantime, I just keep on plugging.

The Blizzard of 17'

As I write this, the snow from the Blizzard of 17 has stopped falling but the wind is howling and rearranging the two feet of snow the storm left behind. It is a blessing to look out on the frozen landscape from the safety and comfort of our warm home. I hope this finds you and yours safe and warm.

If you are getting this for the first time after having signed up a long time ago I apologize for the long delay. I am working through a backlog of far-past-due signups.

I apologize that this issue is coming quite late. My niece, Annette, passed away recently after a 21 month battle with a very aggressive ALK cancer. She was 54 years old and a woman of amazing faith and strength of character and her death has sapped my energy a bit.

I have been spending most of my time finishing up the new novel and the play based upon the book, so now, here is what’s UP AND COMING.
Upcoming Events
AGENT MEETINGS - UNICORN WRITERS CONFERENCE, MARCH 25, 8 AM - 9 PM, MANHATTENVILLE COLLEGE, NEW YORK
I am attending this conference near the end of the month and have arranged meetings with six literary agents regarding my new book, Wounded Angels. I will meet with each agent for 30 minutes and each will have read the first 40 pages of the manuscript. We will see if one or more of them feel it has the horsepower to be a commercial success and offers representation. More to come.
RADIO INTERVIEW WITH DAVID EWEN - YOUR WORLD DISCOVERED - MARCH 27.
Once again, David has graciously invited me to be his guest on the program. This interview will focus primarily on the activities surrounding my new novel, Injured Angels, including plans for the book, play and audio book. The interview will take place on March 27 and will be available on-line following that date. More details in my next newsletter.
STAGED READING OF WOUNDED ANGELS - UCONN WATERBURY CAMPUS - APRIL 19 - 4PM.
This is still in the planning stages and subject to change, but I will provide firm details in my next newsletter. For now, save the date.

I will be the featured author at the Hartford Public Library on Saturday, May 13. THE BOOK

I finished the initial rewrites of Wounded Angels per feedback from editor, Bob Zaslow. I am very impressed with his skills and have arranged to continue working with him on the book. In the meantime, I just keep on plugging.

THE PLAY SCRIPT

The draft is finished! I am still workshopping it with my group at UCONN, but the draft has already been copyrighted and I am moving forward with plans for the staged readings.

AND ON TO THE STAGE...

The first of the staged reading is currently planned for Thursday, April 20 at UCONN Waterbury. More details will follow in my next announcement. If you are available, here is an opportunity for you to help shape what the final play will become.

AND THE AUDIO BOOK?

Nothing new to report right now. Hopefully, more to come on this project in the near future.
And here's a shameless plug for
The Julie Stories featuring my cousin, Joe Callari

Joe is a very talented actor who you might recall from his appearances on Criminal Minds, Modern Family and other television series. Now he is the featured actor in a pilot for a new family comedy film, The Julie Stories. Several screenings of the pilot are schedule throughout the country in the coming months, including one on Staten Island on April 8. By the way, from the thousands of entries nationwide, Joe was selected as Best Actor for his role in the film by Indifest. UP AND COMING
February - March 2017

And the Snows Fall

The winter that almost wasn't is finally here. We have enjoyed unseasonably warm weather and almost no snow throughout December and January. As I write this, that has changed dramatically. The snow from the latest storm is falling steadily. By the time it is finished, it will add another 3-5 inches on top of the foot or so that still lingers on our deck from the last storm and the lake is a plateau of white. I hope this finds you and yours safe and warm.

Some of you may be getting this for the first time after having signed up over a year ago. I am working to get rid of the backlog of far-past-due signups and I apologize for the long delay.

If you are new to this community, welcome. If you have any comments or suggestions regarding these announcements, please share them with me via the contact page on my website at AuthorChuckMiceli.com or directly via e-mail at Chuck@AuthorChuckMiceli.com

And now, here is what’s UP AND COMING.

The Movie
Last week I met with my screenwriter, Carl Guerra, who gave me the latest draft of the screenplay for Amanda's Room. Carl has been multi-tasking by also developing the screenplay for a book by my colleague and friend, Dan Blanchard. Dan is an award-winning author, speaker and educator and he and I are discussing how we might collaborate on jointly approaching studios. More to come.

Wounded Angels

Here is the latest update on the book, the play, et. al.

THE BOOK

I am still rewriting Wounded Angels per feedback from editor, Bob Zaslow, in preparation for pitching it to agents at the Unicorn Writer's Conference on March 25. While the process is sometimes exasperating, I see significant improvements with each iteration so in the end, I pray it will be worth it. For now, I'll just keep on plugging.

THE PLAY SCRIPT

Between my UCONN and private writer's groups, I have been meeting weekly going on five months now and I am already signed up for another UCONN session. Like the book, I receive a great deal of feedback on the play, which in turn translates into more rewriting but I am making steady progress and I am thrilled with the results.

AND ON TO THE STAGE...

Before Wounded Angels hits the main theaters, I am arranging for a number of staged readings. These involve actors reading the play before a live audience but without the trappings of a full production. I will be discussing the play with those who attend to solicit their reactions and feedback. If you are available, here is an opportunity for you to help shape what the final play will become. The first of these staged readings is currently planned for Thursday, April 20 at UCONN Waterbury. More details will follow in my upcoming announcements.

AND THE AUDIO BOOK?

With all the work on the book, the screenplay and the stage play, there just hasn't been time for me to more forward on the audio book right now. Hopefully, more to come on this project in the near future.

Short and Sweet

That does it for this month. Thank you for spending a while with me. Until next month,

Warmest Regards,
Chuck

Amanda's Room
ROGER ZOTTI'S INTERVIEW AND REVIEW OF AMANDA'S ROOM: in the December issue of The Resident.

My thanks to Roger Zotti for interviewing me for The Resident and for his comments on Amanda's Room. Here is a scan of the interview.
The publication reaches over 100,000 residents in Connecticut and Rhode Island. While the paper editions have already been distributed, the on-line article will not appear until next month. I'll put the link to the on-line article here next month.

Wounded Angels

Here is the latest update on the book, the play, et. al.

THE BOOK

As I finish my latest draft, I also picture myself accepting the Pulitzer or the Nobel Prize for literature. When I receive the latest feedback on that draft from my editors, I picture myself sitting on a Manhattan sidewalk holding a sign saying "I'll Write For Food." Nevertheless, once I get over my pity party, I get back to work rewriting. I'm now on my fifth full rewrite.

THE PLAY

I met with the writer's group on Thursday and presented the opening scene of the play. Fortunately, with the group, the feedback is more immediate and in smaller bites so I can make the needed changes faster. I'm excited about the process and the potential. More to come.

AND...

Ilvy Dulack and Jean McGavin are planning the creation of a studio for performing voice-overs for commercials and other audio production work. We have concurrently been discussing their performing the narration for the audio book of Wounded Angels. I have also offered to perform the male roles if that works. The prospect of a simultaneous launch of the book, play and audio-book is very exciting. More to come.

Injured Angels

While the book manuscript is in the capable hands of my editors, here is an update on the survey, the book and the play developments..

Survey Says:
HERE ARE THE RESULTS OF LAST MONTH'S SURVEY.

My sincere thanks to everyone who responded.

TITLE: Wounded Angels was the clear favorite and will be the title of the new book.
On a scale of 1-5, Wounded Angels received a 3.44 rating. Runners up were Injured Angels with 3.32 and Broken Hearts, Mended Souls at 3.04.

THE TARGET AUDIENCE: Was right in sync with my original expectations. More than 79% of respondents said the new book should appeal primarily to women and another 17% said it should appeal to both men and women.

AGE OF POTENTIAL READERS: Almost 69% felt the book will appeal to readers 36-50. More than 89% felt that readers 51-65 years old would enjoy reading it and over 79% said it should appeal to those over 65. Only 17% felt the book would appeal to readers 21-35 and less than 4% thought it was likely to appeal to readers under 20.

AND PARTICULARLY SATISFYING: Over 82% of respondents said that they were either "very likely" or "likely" to read the book when it comes out.

And the Winners Are:

TO SAY THANK YOU, I promised to draw five names (actually, I decided to draw six) from those who took the time to respond to the survey. Congratulations to the following people, fourbaehrs, edithkcar, nrmic, Ckeszler, Jacquiannd, and nbeau, who will each receive a signed and personalized copy of the new paperback when it is released.

All the World is a Stage -
Wounded Angels, the Play:
I have finished writing the draft of the stage play script for Wounded Angels!
Now I am reviewing and revising the script and scheduling staged readings. Once I have scheduled them, I will post the information here to invite those of you who are interested in attending. After each staged reading, I will meet with the audience members to get their reaction to the play and suggestions for revisions before presenting it to professional theaters for full production consideration. If the play is selected for production, I will invite all of you on my mailing list who are interested in joining me for the premiere nights. Hopefully, the book will be published by then too and I will be doing signings after each premier. More details to come.

Amanda's Room

And Amanda's journey to the silver screen continues. The screenwriter contacted me this week to say that the rewrite is almost finished. We should be meeting in the next couple weeks to review it and then we'll make plans for pitching it to studios. More to come.

That's All For Now Folks

Well that does it for this month. Thank you for spending a while with me. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did sharing it with you. Until next month,

Warmest Regards,
Chuck
